Dinesh was 8 years old, son of a migrant worker from UP, when he was brought to Kharel. He was suffering from Rheumatic Heart Disease and needed operation. His father was very poor and could not afford the expenses for the surgery. Gram Seva Trust helped him by contacting a doctor in Ahmedabad who agreed to do the surgery at very low cost. The expenses for the surgery were borne by the organization. Dineshs mitral valve was replaced and he was doing well. But he needed medications to thin his blood and follow up regularly even after the surgery. His father was explained the importance of monthly checkup and medications and the complications of not taking medicines regularly. Fees for the monthly investigations were waived off. Now Dineshs father had to pay only for medicines, the cost of which was minimal as medicines are sold in Gram Sevas medical shop at prices way below their MRP. This motivated his father to regularly bring his child for follow up. Today after 8 years, Dinesh is 16 years old, working as an apprentice and coming regularly for his check-up. Now he can afford his investigations and medicines.
